my boyfriend and I are thinking about going to truck driving school and driving as a team. we are both inexperienced in driving a truck, and would be starting out new! his parents think it is dangerous for us. he is an only child. my parents are deceased. he is 21 and i am 28. would like to know what everyone thinks and what are some good companies!

Take a look at: http://www.schneiderjobs.com/drivers/Team.html This is the Schneider web page for team drivers. They also provide training at Schneider Academy. Average team pay is up to $125,000 per year. Typically, you are on the road for 14 days and then have 3 days off. I would suggest getting hooked up with a company like this if you plan to do team driving. If you have discussed it with your partner and you are both very interested in it, its definitely worth a shot. Its extremely hard to find a 2-person career so if you have, its fantastic. Go for it!!! and enjoy your life.

Don't do it! I work for United Van Lines and every driver regrets it♥

My husband is a truckdriver with 20 years experience. OTR trucking as a team usually means that you want to buy or lease your own rig. This is extremely expensive, unpredictable and exhausting however. Definitely reconsider that option. If you are looking for employment - you need to obtain your commercial drivers license first of course - my husband has a hazmat endorsement too so he hauls liquid nitrogen right now at $22.00 per hour. He wears a uniform and its a hard, dangerous job. I am a lawyer and the happiest person I knew in law school worked for UPS. They train, have excellent benefits and even paid my friend's way through law school. He liked it so much he graduated from law school and kept working for UPS!! OTR trucking sounds fun but it gets old fast. Sitting on your ass all day, eating at truck stops, never getting a decent shower or night's sleep. If you're looking for that kind of adventure then rent an rv or camper and take a nice vacation. that's what we did - we drove around Nova Scotia and Cape Breton in our pickup truck and had a ball. Stayed in bed and breakfasts and little inns every night. It was great fun but we were happy at the end of the week to get back to our comfy little beds. Good luck!!

There are truck driving companies that pay for your studies, go to one of those schools....try it for a year or two, see what you think.
