How do you successfully customer service?
Asked by j nuyuen
In most lines of work, customer service inevitably becomes a part of job. I believe, the statistics is that the more customer servicing is involved the higher the turn-over rate. However, in most cases, you can't quit your job because you don't like people who have to help out at work.
What are your experiences and feelings about "customer service" at your job? If you feel, you are managing it well enough, what mindset do you use for customer servicing?
Let me further ask, do you feel your success at customer servicing is affected by your ethnicity?

A good way to approach this situation is to place the desire for resolution on the shoulders of the person calling to complain. You can do this with a very simple statement "I know you are frustrated and I am frustrated that you have not been taken care of the way you would like. Tell me, what solution can I provide that will give you a sense of being well taken care of?"
This way, the customer has to really think about what they want and give you an answer. Most customers just want to be treated well and if you ask them, they will tell you what they are after. Of course, some of them will try to take advantage, and ask for too much, knowing they are trying to screw you. However, most people will be straight up with you and ask for the minimum they desire. They feel you really listened to them and wanted to address their concerns, not just the concerns of your particular business or job, but THEIR concerns.
If they are unreasonable, you simply say "I will check with my manager and get right back to you" Place them on hold for a couple of minutes and tell them, "sorry, that is not something we can do, how about this solution? and offer them something in the middle.
You will never be able to please all of the people, all of the time. Just some of the people, all of the time.
