What are some good entry level jobs for a recent college grad with a BA in psych. in San Diego?
Asked by Luanne
I graduated and now what? I don't want to go on to get a masters and don't necessarily want to go into the psych. field. I have only retail experience and want to get away from that. I'm totally discouraged and overwhelmed. Where do I start?

hey, maybe I'm biased, but have you considered job in marketing agency. people with degree in psychology are quite good at developing concepts and hypothesis for consumers behavior. moreover, you have retail experience.

I would kind of hope that you'd have a small idea where to start, since you have a degree.
Does your school have a career center? They may have some ideas, or a database where you can search for jobs.
Look through the classifieds in the newspaper (Sunday ads are best), and you can also use Hotjobs and Monster. I have a few friends who have found some success with Craigslist. Visit a temp agency, and perhaps some job there will lead to a full - time position.
Good luck.

Luanne...start applying everywhere and for anything really...you just need to sell them on why you can work for them, For instance,
Customer Service Rep or sales- because i have a way of dealing with people and understand the human mind i would be a good canidate etc etc.
Teacher/daycare- I understand learning the human mind and can help identify mental disorders etc.
You practically can say whatever you want and bend it to make it seem like you are best for the job!

I too have a BA in psych. there is not much you can do with that degree in the field of psychology but any job where you can work with or focus on people would be good for you. Often jobs require that you have degree but not in a special major, so the most important thing is that you have a degree now.
I would look into getting a job in a marketing or management field, as they are both abundant in the job market and tend to pay well. I work as a marketing coordinator and use a lot of psychology on my job.
