Best Answer:
1. physicians assistants 27% growth next 10 years
2. physical therapist 27% growth next 10 years
3. registered nurse 25% growth next 10 years
4. licensed practical/vocational nurse 25% growth next 10 years
5. occupational therapist 23% growth next 10 years
these are all licensed positions
in non licensed positions such as medical assistants the growth is expected to be 35%, this field includes ALL nonlicensed positions such as but not limited to, medical billers, transcriptionist, medical assistants, receptionist and all other nonlicensed positions in the medical field.
this growth is do in part to high turnover in the field(low pay and continuing education to licensed positions) and the continued expansion of services by smaller physicans groups in smaller markets.
some with slower growth include
physicians and surgeons 14% growth (due in part to the continued growth in the use of PAs and NPs)
medical administrators 16% growth
as the nation ages the need for those who provide health care of all types for the elderly will continue to grow and outpace the economy as a whole. all medical fields are projected to grow and the amount of growth depends greatly on the region of the country.

While I would not like to argue with Michr or the Bureau of Labor Statistics, I would wonder how, if there is a 14% grrowth in Physicians, they will need a 35% increase in medical assistants.
Certain changes in the methods of managing health care could cause dramatic shifts in the need for certain support personnel.
For example, while medical assistants are often used to help with medical billing and some coding, the increased used of electronic medical records and voice recognition software has already made dramatic decreasess in the need for medical transcriptionist, which a few years ago was listed as one of the most needed jobs for the future. The computer iunput will also automate much of the coding and billing which is now done separately. While these skills will still be needed for several years, a careful eye on changing technology should be observed to prevent being loced into a downsized occupation. In many offices where there was constant need for several records personnel, now all records are typed or scanned into computers, and paper records are no longer kept. In my city we have over 700 too many medical assistant graduates per year for the advertised positions, yet we still have over 22 medical assistant schools with 2 class sessions per day in the city. However, in small towns which have no schools, they need the people trained in these programs, but the salaries offered are not high enough to entice the people to move away from their current locations.
I do agree with the list for licensed personnel, though in some areas, it should be noted that LPNs are being moved out of the hospital and into long term facilities and home health situations.
