Although there are some exceptions, almost all employees in California must be paid the minimum wage as required by state law. Effective January 1, 2008, the minimum wage in California is $8.00 per hour. There are some employees who are exempt from the minimum wage law, such as outside salespersons, individuals who are the parent, spouse, or child of the employer, and apprentices regularly indentured under the State Division of Apprenticeship Standards. Minimum Wage Order (MW-2007)
There is an exception for learners, regardless of age, who may be paid not less than 85% of the minimum wage rounded to the nearest nickel during their first 160 hours of employment in occupations in which they have no previous similar or related experience.

Minimum wage is $8. Yes, you are being underpaid. Don't take the job and report those as*wipes.

idk what minimum wage is in california, but it's 6.75 here...and considering that it's just tutoring, then i would say that that's a fine price. If you're concerned, just talk to your boss or someone else that works there.

I don;'t know what min wage is in Cali but if you are not earning tips (like a waiter would) then I don't see how they can pay you less then min wage. Why not ask them about it. See what they say. If they can't give you a good answer call the department of labor.

Unless you are getting tips, that is illegal. Minimum wage here in IL is now 7.75. Some pizza place hired my daughter at 7.00 and told her training was not paid!! LOLOL...I called the owner and told him no way. He said that's how I do it, I said really?? Lets see what the labor board thinks of that. Needless to say, he upped her pay and offered paid training. It's sad, but lots of people try to take advantage of young people.

Tell the person employing you that you're gone or that they raise the pay. Thats just not fair especially when you're there for 10 hours in a row! Btw, minimum wage is $8 and if Obama wins it will be raised to $10 SO VOTE 4 OBAMA bitch!

Nevermind what min wage is. Here is a nickels worth of free advice. Figure out what you are worth and demand it, if you get it make sure you work hard and earn it, if you dont get it move on to bigger and better things. The world is full of unhappy people who settled.
