Former Marine looking to start new career as a truck driver.?
Asked by arturo r
I am interested in maybe becoming a truck driver. They always advertise good pay and all that other good stuff. One thing I was wondering is how to pay for tuition. Can I use my GI.BILL also what do they mean by tuition reimbursement? I know it means they will cover the tuition cost but how? Is this a good idea. Thanks for your inputs I will really appreciate it.

First of all let me say Thank You for your service to our country. As a parent of a son who was just deployed to Bazra, I am proud of all of our service men and women. Now onto trucking...Trucking as with a lot of business's has taken a pretty big hit because of our economy situation. There are a lot of not so great quality schools out there that will promise you anything under the moon just to get your money and once they have it you are pretty much screwed. There are very few openings right now in the industry and the ones that are hiring can be very picky about who they hire. My suggestion to you would be to learn everything you can about the industry at this time but hold off on jumping into it until our economy starts to recover. I used to drive OTR myself until some family issues took me away from it for a while but myself and another driver decided to start a yahoo group to help new and wanna-be drivers get the honest information about the trucking industry. We have tons of information in our file, database, and link sections. We also have a huge member base filled with drivers that are there to help you with any questions you have. We would love to have you as a member. Our group is free to join and if you decide to come check us out just put in that Susan sent you where it asks as to why you want to join. I hope to see you there and if not I wish you the very best in wherever your career takes you. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/trailertruckintech/

First, SEMPER FI! Yes, you can use your GI Bill while in training under the apprenticeship program. Currently, the first six months will bring $990.75 additional income. The second six months, $726.55 and the remainder of training, $462.35. Tuition reimbursement means the company will reimburse you for paid training. The process for using your benefits is lengthy--three to six months. Plan now.
