How do I become a pharmaceutical sales rep?
Asked by Brian D
I would like to look into the field of pharmaceutical sales reps. I would like to know what the qualifications are, is a degree needed or can I take courses at a college and not obtain a degree. I would like advice from current reps if possible as to whether this is a good field to get into and what is required. Im 38 yrs old and do not have a degree but do have sales experience as I was a stock broker for 4 years. What would I need to do to get an entry level position?

Having sales experience is a must. Selling stocks is very good. One drawback is your age, believe it or not. Pharma companies mostly hire young "good looking" men and women. You must "represent" the company at all times in looks also. You must be aggressive in nature, must know you will be on the road nearly all the time. You will have to take your doctors in your assigned territory to lunch, and play the game. It is not easy getting in, as the process is long, they look at hundreds of top people, and only hire a few at a time. But, if you do get in, the benefits are unbelievable. You will get a 401K, medical, company car most likely, company credit card, bonuses during the year.
My son went through the process.
